On June 15, 2012, the Faculty of Computer Science recruitment team organized a workshop entitled “Teaching for the Future: Computational Thinking in Teaching and Practice” for over 100 students and faculty from the University of New Brunswick’s Faculty of Education.

The workshop, which was sponsored by Google’s Computer Science for High School program (CS4HS) introduced future teachers to the concept of computational thinking through engaging guest speakers, interactive activities, and facilitated discussions.

The purpose of the day was to encourage future teachers to incorporate computational thinking practices into their classrooms, to foster skills that will lead to more students choosing careers in the Information and Communication Technology sector.

Ongoing: Computer Science Unplugged: Interactive sessions, with grade 5 students, on computing concepts without using computers at all, will be continually held throughout the year in different elementary schools in the Fredericton area.
